Soccer for 3 Year Olds

Soccer for 3 year olds is probably as much fun for the 3 year olds to play, as it is for the grownups to watch. There coach spent more time trying to keep everyone lined up, getting back in line, not using hands and just getting them to pay enough attention to get his instructions somewhat across to them. It was very entertaining. Trevor is on a team with his friend Ian. He was mostly concerned about being on line next to Ian, kicking near Ian and making sure NO ONE touched his ball. He was supposed to leave it in the middle when he got a drink, but would hesitate to make sure no one would touch it. That meant it came with him a few times.

All in all, he had fun. They dribbled around cones, played Red Light, Green Light and kicked into a goal and had alot of fun. Trevor had to be reminded alot not to use his hands. I will work on that one with him. When they handed out uniforms, Trevor was #2. Ian got #4. Apparently that was not a good number. Ian was pretty upset, but Trevor being the friend his immediately stripped off his shirt and traded with his buddy. It was super cute. I got him some new soccer shoes as well and those didnt come off until we had been home for an hour and a half.

Canyon Lake

Awesome day at Canyon Lake which is northeast of us in the Superstition Mountains. To get there you take a windy road full of shear dropoffs and no guard rails and at the bottom are lots of huge rocks (cringe here). We did this in a van towing a boat. (cringe more now). Glenn and Alicia and his parents bought a pontoon boat and we spent the day at the lake. The kids had never really been on a boat that I can remember so this was great to put them out of their element in a really great way.

Annika had no problem jumping with with Glenn. Trevor was a bit more hesitant. I had to go in. I had no real intention of swimming today, but Trevor had to go in and I had to take him - no one else. The water in the morning was not warm. Kids dont care about that, they just have fun.

Trevor Gets to Steer - WATCH OUT!!! (Trevor and Glenn's Dad).

We swam, toured around the canyons in the boat. Saw some herons and hawks, but not much else (last time my friends were there, they saw big horn sheep - no such luck today). Annika and Trevor made sure to sit up front when we went over the wakes - lots of splashing.

More pics here (if the link doesnt work - let me know and I will email it to you)

First Day of 2nd Grade

Here we are, back at school again in Arizona. Annika had her first day in 2nd grade today. She has the wonderful Ms. Tuterow who thankfully likes to keep everyone updated weekly with email!! She had a great day and alot of her very good friends from last year made it into her class. The rest are right next door in the other 2nd grade and she is really happy about seeing all of her old friends. They have a great fine arts program this year- Music with a man from the Phoenix Symphony, Drama with a Man from the Phoenix Children's Theater and an Art Teacher who is an artist for her profession. The new principal is fantastic too. She had a great day and is very excited about the school year. (Trevor was shy around the big kids so he didn't pose well for pictures).

Sleepy Time

Trevor has set up camp in Annika's room. So far since she has been home, if the aren't sleeping with me, he is sleeping on her floor in his Spiderman air bed. Annika now just expects him in there and has given up trying to get the airbed out of her room. I am sure that soon, they will make a place for it to put it away during the day so they can play. I have stopped asking where he wants to sleep since I already know the answer. I am pretty sure the only way to get him back in his room is if I ever finish the overly ambitious super hero mural on his bedroom wall. I guess I know what I am doing tomorrow....

Trevor got a Star Wars Lego kit. I am forever making new starships based on what is on the box. I seem to have not lost my childhood Lego skills. As you can see, he likes it so much, he sleeps with it. Of course when he wakes up, he brings the pieces of the rolled on toy for me to make into a new plane.

Annika will not wear pajamas any longer. Only large grown up t-shirts. Good thing Rick owns a lot of shirts...
