My Tough Cookie

So, I realized, that for all of 2007, I did not have to do the following things:
  • Visit the ER
  • Have EMTs remove objects from a child's mouth
  • Call Poison Control
My luck in this matter was bound to not last too far into 2008. My son must keep me on my toes at all times. So, he decided to break his winning streak by colliding very hard into his best friend Ian's mouth. Now, I really didn't see the collision, I just watched my friend Linda's face go from a calm conversation, to a look of horror and then to hear our kids screaming. I believe there was a mention of running and sliding on the tile and the two of them flying into the air into each other. So, we scoop them up, grab ice and sit on the sofa. Connor Ian's brother didn't apparently care for them crying and decided to join in for no apparent reason other than peer pressure. Ian suffered from a loosened tooth, bloody lip and bruised chin. Trevor on the other hand, had a bruised and slightly swollen nose. After about 5 minutes, the crying was over and they were back to watching a movie. Lesson not learned however, they decided that running on the tile was still super fun. Now, I didnt think too much of Trevor's nose, he seemed fine, no bruising of the eyes or anything.
Today however my friend picked Trev up to run some errands, one of which happened to be to his own doctor. Now, my friend didn't think to much of the bruise either, but his doctor took a look and said "Yep, it is slightly fractured. Nothing you can really do about it" Instructions are don't blow too hard and no picking. I am sure the picking part will be very difficult for Trevor to comply with since it seems to be a sport for him. To quote Ian "It is not picking, he is cleaning it out".
Well, I guess he has one more thing to add to his list of boyish injuries. I wonder what it will be in 2009...... hopefully something very uneventful.

Robot Legs are Cool

"I wish I had a robot leg"

Out of the blue, I heard him tell me this. No context, we weren't discussing robots, Transformers or legs at the time, but sure enough, out came this thought.

"Why do you want a robot leg?"

"Michael has a robot leg. I met him and he has a cool robot leg." (I found out later that Michael is a boy he met while with a friend.)

"I am sure Michael wishes he had a real leg and I am glad you have a real leg"

"No, his leg is cooler. I still want a robot one."

"Well, you should be happy that you have the legs you were born with"

"Being a robot is cool, so are robot legs"

I wound up changing the subject, since there was no way I was going to convince him that it is better to have your real legs. Robot legs are just better...
